September Brings Football

I hope everyone has had an enjoyable summer and time to relax from their everyday life, however that may look.

When the cooler evenings arrive, we know the summer golf league is over, and it's crunch time to finish up the last of your summer projects. A new season is just around the corner. While summer doesn't officially end until September 22, we all know fall has arrived when the yellow buses return and the kids and grandkids go off to school.

For those going off to college for the first time, there's the ritual of move-in day, and it's probably a bitter-sweet moment. Best wishes to every student and family!

When September hits, it's a fast-paced race to the end of the year and time to shift into overdrive because the Club gets even busier. We are entering the time of year when the schedule fills up very quickly, but we love the excitement and challenge to be the best we can be, and we look forward to all the upcoming events. If you haven't planned your party or family get-together, please call me to lock in a date. We'll make every attempt to ensure your special event is memorable. From down-home and casual to formal and elegant, we've done it all. Let us worry about the details—you enjoy your party!

One last sign of fall is the beginning of football season. When was the last time there was so much expectation about the Cleveland Browns hmmm?

Let's go back to 1986-1987, the back-to-back years where eight points, two games, and the Denver Broncos kept Cleveland from playing in two SuperBowls. Fast forward to the present (skip all the bad stuff in between). We have HOPE! We have a team that is built to WIN! It has been a long, long time. Let this be the year of greatness and make the factory of sadness no more. "Woof Woof…I'm a Dog," and we wake up feeling "dangerous."

Ohio State is Ohio State. I'm happy to say they don't rebuild; they reload full of talent and expectations. If you have never been to an Ohio State game in the Horseshoe, put it on your bucket list. It is truly one of the best fall experiences. The excitement as the team comes out of the tunnel after the band scripts Ohio and the traditional dotting of the "i" really makes you feel proud to be an Ohioan. You just can't beat a Saturday fall afternoon in Ohio.

Well, it's time to grab that beer (because I'm in a beer mood) and gather around the tailgate grill for this month's fireside chat. Here's this month's rundown:

Prime Rib night will be Friday, September 9.

Clubhouse Closings

The Clubhouse will be closed for a private event on Saturday, September 24.

Comedy Night at the Club

Join us Saturday, September 17, for an evening full of laughter with comedy show headliner, Jim Flannigan, bringing that big-town experience to Van Wert, Ohio.

Dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the show from 7:30-9:00 p.m.

$80 a couple or $50 single (includes dinner and a show) with a night of great food, $5 Drink Features (click to see options) all evening, and of course, great laughs and great company. Call now for reservations.

Jim Flannigan is a Chicago native known for his quick and hard-hitting punchlines. He is a favorite at comedy clubs, comedy festivals, and corporate events across the country. His debut album, "About Time," was recently recorded at the legendary Zanies in Rosemont, Illinois, and will be available in early 2022. When not headlining his own shows, you can find Jim opening for some of the biggest names in comedy, recently Brad Garrett and Sebastian Maniscalco among others.

Jim has made TV appearances on ABC, WGN, NBC Sports, the IFC network, and more. He has been a featured performer at many of the top comedy festivals in the U.S., including the Boston Comedy Festival, Gilda's LaughFest, and The Great American Comedy Festival, honoring the late Johnny Carson. He is co-host of the hilarious All Over The Place with Pat McGann, and What Do We Know? w/Hari and Jim, both available everywhere you find podcasts.

Seafood Dinner

The last event of the month has easily become one of the Club's special nights many look forward to enjoying. Our quarterly Seafood Buffet, now the Willow Bend Seafood Dinner, will be Friday, September 30, beginning at 5:00 p.m. Call now for reservations.
