Although the weather has been hot and humid, it beats torrential rains we experienced this spring and early summer. As a result, we have been able to complete several events with little to no weather concerns.
I will start this month’s letter with some exciting news. After going several months without a hole-in-one, we experienced two, from July 31st to August 5th. Willie Williams holed his tee shot out on hole #7, and Susan Karst got her hole-in-one on hole #4 during the Central Golf League. Congratulations to both of you! We look forward to seeing your name on the plaques on some new trees.
On August 3rd, we played the Best Ball Tournament. The six team field was won by Al Welch, Andy Bashore, and Tim Clemens with a score of 131. Second place went to the team of Chadd Duvall, Trevor Bebout, and Dick Jones with a score of 132.
The next completed tournament was the Par 3 tournament. The four team field was won by the team of Brad Doidge, Jack Brand, and Mark Johnston with second place going to Brent Unterbrink, Trevor Bebout, and Roy Ringwald. Congratulations to the winners! Again, I want to thank those who participated.
After two months of match play competition, the Presidents Cup is down to the championship match, between Arnie Miller and Mike Zedaker. Good luck, guys!
The remaining schedule for this year includes the Club Championship on August 24th and August 25th, the Labor Day Scramble, and the end of the year Member Appreciation Tournament on September 7th. We ask that you please consider coming and supporting your club.
Over the past few years, I have mentioned the Willow Bend Junior Golf Program several times. After just completing our third year, I’m happy to tell you that the Van Wert Boys golf team and the Lincolnview Girls team have several golfers that have participated in our program. With Willow Bend being the home course for both teams, it has been exciting to watch them practice and improve their game. We look forward to seeing them in the future.
Raymond Floyd once said: “They call it golf because all of the other four letter words were taken.”See you soon!
