Just like the rest of the months this year, September was busy. In addition to our normal September events, we also hosted seven high school matches, two high school tournaments, and a Van Wert Senior Tournament. This is on top of a busier than normal golf season.
We started the month off with the Labor Day Scramble, which consisted of seven teams and was shortened due to inclement weather. After nine holes, we had two teams tie with a score of 29. Team members were Brent Beck, Tom Sinn, Rick Boley, Chuck Steele and Bill Purmort, Jim Loughrie, and Andrew and Gregg Bashore. Congratulations!
The second tournament completed was our annual Member Appreciation Tournament. This year we changed the format a little to include a Member/Guest day, which included free breakfast and golf for guests and/or potential new members. As has been in the past, the members were still playing for 2021 membership discounts. The winner of the top prize and $700.00 off of next year’s membership was Brad Doidge. With 2nd place and 50% off a Premium Cart Package went to Chadd Duvall. In all, we had nine different members who won discounts to their 2021 memberships.
In addition to these tournaments, we also crowned a Preakness Champion, Brad Doidge, on Sunday, September 20th.
Earlier, I made mention of a busier than normal golf season. The numbers through the middle of September show an increase in rounds played over the past two years of an average of 18%. These numbers are impressive when you consider the restrictions and uncertainty we were under due to the pandemic. I hope this reflects a little on the safety precautions WBCC implemented, including masks, cart petitions, the removal of trap rakes, and the no touch golf ball elevators.
In closing, I want to again invite you out to the Pro Shop to take a look at our merchandise, which is currently priced as much as 35% off of retail costs. I also want to thank all those members who have supported the club in 2020, and we look forward to bigger and better things in 2021.
