Wow! Will it ever quit raining? As a result of the significant rainfall this month, the golf course has been closed 12 days through May 28 resulting in just 302 rounds of golf played compared to the May average of 820. Although I certainly do not want to downplay the impact the course closures have had on our membership, we need to keep those in Oklahoma and Missouri in mind who are experiencing conditions much worse than ours, as well as our farmers who are having difficulty just getting crops planted.
Even with the wet conditions we have been able to get things started as scheduled. The annual Opening Day Scramble was played on Saturday May 11 with a total of five teams participating. The winning team following a tie breaker with a score of 62 was made up of Willie Williams, Tom Sinn, Andy Anderson, and Chris Wasson. In second place was the team of Kevin Merkle, Jack Brand, Mark Johnston, and Juanita Plyler. The skills events were won by Jim Loughrie and Willie Williams. Congratulations and thanks for playing! Unfortunately the Memorial Day Scramble was canceled due to wet conditions on the course.
The Monday/Thursday Senior Men’s League and Tuesday Night Men’s League kicked off the week of May 13 as scheduled.
Upcoming events include the March Play President’s Cup on June 15, the Alternate Shot Tournament also on the 15, and the 4th of July Scramble. If you are interested in playing in any of these events, please stop by the Pro Shop to sign-up or give us a call.
The WBCC Junior Golf will kick of the week of June 3 and will conclude with the annual luncheon on Friday, June 28. At the time of this writing we are expecting 30 participants. I have had several members ask if there was a need for additional funding for the program and my answer is no. This is the result of the overwhelming response I received with my initial request when we started the program three years ago. So again, I would like to thank the Willow Bend Golf Membership for supporting this program.See you soon!
