Although the golf season started late and slow due to the COVID-19 outbreak, with subsequent restrictions, we are finally back in the swing of things. Our leagues started the last week of May and our first official tournament was the Fourth of July Scramble.
We had a total of 8 four-person teams that participated in the Scramble. The winning team, with a score of 57 or 13 under par, included Brant Unterbrink, Jim Loughrie, Andy Anderson and Mark Johnston. Second place with a 10 under par score of 60 was won by Brent Beck, Tom Sinn, Rick Boley, and Chris Wasson. The individual skills events were won by Mark Johnston, Brent Unterbink, and Juanita Plyler. Congratulations and thank you for playing and supporting the club.
Our second tournament of the year was the 6-shooter. This tournament was made up of two-man teams and consisted of a scramble, best ball, and alternate shot formats. This tournament was won by Gale Scarbrough and Jordan Miller with a net score of 71.6. Second place with a net score of 84 was the team of Brad Doidge and Nick Thomas. Again, congratulations and thank you for playing.
The last event to report on is the Tuesday Night Men’s League. We crowned the winners of the first half of the league on July 14th. The Scarlet division was won by the team of Brent Unterbrink and Jack Brand, and finishing second was the Knittle’s - Denny and Travis. In the Grey Division, Tom Wilkin and George Brooks finished first with Andrew and Gregg Bashore finishing second.
Our August tournaments include a Best Ball Tournament, a Par Three Tournament, and the Club Championship. I ask that you please consider signing up for these events and supporting your club.
As I am writing this, we have just received the new COVID-19 guidelines from our Governor. These guidelines stipulate that anyone entering the pro shop will be required to wear a mask. In addition, masks will be required outside unless the social distancing guidelines are practiced.
I also want to take this time and welcome our new golf members to Willow Bend. This list includes Ty Conrad, Joey Hurless, Jerry Mazur & Joanne Simmerman, Jordan Miller, Denis Smith, Nick Thomas, and Tom Wilkin.
Did You Know: In 1945, Byron Nelson won a total of 18 tournaments? That is quite a year. What is even more amazing is that he won 11 of those tournaments in a row!
